Cursive E blanket

My college best friend is having a baby girl! They already had a name picked out that they were willing to share and when I had the idea of a monogrammed blanket she loved it. So with a name starting with an E, we have this blanket! My friend requested a cat and I wanted to continue my sewing streak by making a flannel blanket too.

Thoughts on the process

Crochet Blanket

I should have thought of this idea of a cursive letter sooner! I really like the look of the monogrammed blanket.

Purple blanket with monogrammed E.
If I could do it over again, I'd put a bit more of a curve on the bottom of the E. While working on the blanket, I kept adding more to the original design. I always forget that the end product is a little more squished vertically than the perfect diamonds in my template.

Cat

Warning the website requires a login or purchase of the pattern. I didn't discover this until after I'd made the head and body and scrolled down far enough to trigger the website registration/log-in requirement. I should have looked at the entire pattern before starting. After discovering the requirement I probably would have chosen a different pattern. At that point, when I'd already made some of the cat, it felt like a bait and switch and just made me peeved. If you are going to put your pattern behind a wall, put the whole thing behind it, not part of it. As far as I could tell there was no warning higher up on the blog post that this wasn't a free pattern. I understand the need to be paid, but don't do a bait and switch!
Lavender crochet cat
It looks like a fox, but I'm not sure how I could have prevented this. Perhaps more rounded ears? The limbs are also floppy, so posing it sitting up is difficult.

Overall, it's cute, not my favorite cat I've ever made, but cute.

Flannel Blanket

Pink/purple animals and sushi flannel blanket
I know both fabrics I chose are kind of crazy. But I think this friend will forgive me. I fell in love with them and even though they don't super match, I thought she'd enjoy them. Plus she said the crazier the better and to surprise her, so now she has to live with giving me such free rein ;)

The best part is I did this in a single day! I think I'm getting more relaxed about the process of making these kinds of blankets. I don't think the blankets are getting better per se, but I'm getting more comfortable with the sewing machine, cutting, pinning, etc. With practice, I'll get better at straight seams and such.
Pink decorative stitch for the blanket
I went with a different decorative stitch this time around. I tried a bunch of different stitches before settling on one. This one I feel better matches the sharper angles on the sushi fabric, which helps the pink thread tie in with that side.
